  1. Impressive collection from the mild side of the divide! Can't do some of that as well in Denver (the wild side). Stunning forms, and nice to see some local natives from here doing well up there, like Desert Marigold in photo #11.

Not sure photo #3 is Yucca faxoniana - looks like a Y. rostrata, or possibly a Y. rigida or bluer Y. schottii. Leaves way too narrow for the 1st, at least to me.

The Salvia pachyphylla or S. dorrii and the various Joshua Tree forms are impressive.

I cannot imagine those in the great basin, seeing how vigorous those red yuccas, salvias, etc are, how they would still want all their garden to look like the midwest.

I would assume that California / Compass Barrel gets covered in the winter?

  2. Thanks, David, for turning me on to this: absolutely mind boggling! Can't WAIT to see it in person...

  3. Hi
The Faxon yucca is growing good and has long leaves, if you seen it up close you could tell it is Faxon yucca. He has tried Y. schottii but with no luck and Y. rigida will not survive tyhe winters here. If I make it down there again I will take better up close pics of that yucca.

And yes you are right about the Barrel cactus covered in winter.
